In celebration of Women’sHistory month, AdvanceRIT hosted and partnered on multiple events.
AdvanceRIT held a women’s resource fair on the 3rd of March. This fair displayed different offices and organizations that can help women faculty, staff, and students. Offices such as Ombuds, Faculty Career Development, Counseling & Psychological Services, Women’s Council, Title IX Office, CREW, Teaching and Learning Services, and many more made an appearance at the fair. There were a total of 41 participants as a combination of both faculty, staff, and students stopping by. Everyone who filled out a survey found the event to be a good use of their time and a great way to expand their RIT network. Some of the most useful aspects of the fair were the “opportunity to meet other departments/staff” and “learning more about campus resources”. Overall participants were very satisfied with the fair which makes it a great event to try and replicate in the future.
AdvanceRIT also invited Dr. Tracy Laszloffy on March 18th to speak about specific challenges that women and people of color face on the tenure track. Dr. Tracey Laszloffy is the Director of the Center of Healing Connections in CT and has over 25 years of experience as a therapist. She has spoken nationally and internationally on healing wounds of trauma and oppression and has been extensively published in journals. Participants learned strategies on how to negotiate challenges while fostering a more satisfying balance between their work and other parts of their lives. Overall everyone who evaluated the event thought it was a valuable use of their time and thought the presenter was very well educated on the topic. Some of the comments about the most useful aspect of the session were that “it was very helpful to hear colleagues share their experiences…” and “…This was a welcoming and safe space”.
In another other event participants got to have in-depth reflections and discussions on topics such as finances and compensation in Let’s Talk Money, as well as Bell Hooks's reading group on her book: Feminism is for Everybody.
