William Snyder

Professor, Photojournalism Undergraduate Program Director, RIT
Four-time Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer and editor William Snyder is currently serving as professor and chair of the Photojournalism Program at RIT. After his graduation from RIT, he joined the photography staff of The Miami News. Two years later, he moved to the Dallas Morning News. During his 15 years as a staff photographer at the DMN, William won three Pulitzers Prizes. In 2005, he was named The Morning News' director of photography and guided the photography staff to the 2006 Pulitzer Prize in Breaking News for their coverage of Hurricane Katrina. He also produced “Eyes of The Storm,” a 256-page book featuring the DMN photo staff's images from hurricanes Katrina and Rita which sold out its first edition. William then served as an adjunct faculty member of The Art Institute of Dallas and the University of North Texas until his return to RIT in 2008. He has won numerous awards including: The National Press Photographers Association, Associated Press Managing Editors, Society of Newspaper Design, Robert F. Kennedy Foundation, Dallas Press Club, The Texas Headliners, Pro Football Hall of Fame, and the Olympic Photo Committee.
