College of Applied Science and Technology Celebrates 40th Anniversary

One of CAST’s earliest leaders was John Adams.

Not the Massachusetts statesman known for inspiring the early colonies toward independence. RIT’s John F. Adams was acting director of the School of Engineering Technology in 1980, and one of the many individuals who shaped the College of Applied Science and Technology since it was formally established in 1972.

The college will celebrate its early founders and leaders; its current community of students, faculty and staff; and its successful alumni starting with two main events taking place during Brick City Homecoming & Family Weekend:

• CAST Commemorative 40^th Anniversary Celebration, 1–3 p.m. Oct. 18 next to the Engineering Technology Building. It is free and open to the campus community and general public. Guests will include RIT and Rochester community leaders, alumni and corporate partners.

• The School of International Hospitality and Service Innovation Alumni Awards Dinner at 6 p.m. Oct. 18 at the Radisson Hotel, 175 Jefferson Road. The event will include dinner starting at 7 p.m. Cost for the program is $50 per person for alumni and guests, $25 for students. Guests should register online by Oct. 10.

The hospitality alumni awards will be given to six distinguished alumni and faculty who have contributed to the department and the hospitality industry. Those receiving awards are Diane Dimitroff ’83, ’96 (B.S., MBA); executive director, Lehigh Valley Association of Independent Colleges, Pennsylvania; Edward Keyes ’99 (B.S.); Suzanne Piotrowski ’95 (M.S.), president, Badfish Consulting LLC; Cyndi Weis ’92 (B.S.), owner, Breathe Yoga; Alysse Schuster ’12 (M.S.) and Francis Domoy, Chair Emeritus of the department.
