Bio
Joel Rosen is an award winning designer with a career spanning over 4 decades. Throughout his career, Joel has continually sought out and embraced emerging technologies, starting with computer controlled typesetting and business presentation graphics in the ‘80s, multimedia advertising design and desktop publishing in the 90s, web design and e-commerce in the 2000s and most recently in mobile applications and interactive user experiences. Over the course of 40+ years, Joel has held positions ranging from independent freelance designer to art director for small design agencies to creative director for a Fortune 500 company.
Along with his professional work, Joel has been an educator in a variety of settings ranging from seminars, professional development courses to traditional college level classrooms. His approach to teaching has always focused on providing every student with the fundamental knowledge and practical skills applicable to their individual goals. His extensive experience in industry provides him with a broad perspective on the role and value of design and technology in the education of aspiring designers.
Joel holds a BFA from Virginia Commonwealth University where he focused on integrating emerging digital technologies with traditional studio arts and an MFA from RIT in Computer Graphics Design, a precursor to today’s VCD graduate degree program.

RIT students create pinball machines for History and Design of Pinball course
As part of an interactive games and media course, 12 RIT students made cardboard and digital pinball machines designed around themes of their own choosing. For the final exam, students brought their creations to The Strong National Museum of Play and had visitors give their physical and virtual pinball machines a test drive.
