Exhibition features work by MFA students

An exhibition featuring the Master of Fine Art work by Rochester Institute of Technology students Maggie Pinke, Jay Tyndall and Yuwen Wang will be on display at the William Harris Gallery. The show opens with a reception from 5 to 8 p.m. April 24 and runs through May 7.

The exhibition includes photographs, collage, text and installation work in a range of media that showcases the distinctly different work of each of the three artists as part of their MFA in photography and related media.

In her body of work, Warp & Weft, Pinke expands the idea of rapidly progressing events and those that have passed—building on a specific vocabulary in which a more complete story can be told. Text and image are the components of this language—each containing moments of planning, evidence, surprise and discovery.

In B-sides are the Best Sides, Tyndall examines how collage can playfully articulate the evasive histories of its component parts. The artist’s curiosity lies with how these materials from another time or place can portray a daily action or experience, allowing the work to find a passionate pursuit of natural beauty, aesthetic awareness and formal charm.

Wang’s work, The Most Beautiful Times, explores a woman’s devotion and passion, representing her past, present and her imagination of the future, through freezing performance as still frames in front of a camera.

The newly named and renovated William Harris Gallery, formerly known as the School of Photographic Arts and Sciences (SPAS) gallery, is located on the third floor of Frank Gannett Hall at RIT.
