RIT alumnae share insights tonight

Megan Rossman

Megan Rossman, a 2005 RIT graduate, captured this image of a competitor getting down and dirty at the RunAmuck 5K race in Rockville, Md. Rossman, a multimedia journalist at The Washington Post, is among the alumnae who will talk about her career experiences at the Charles Arnold Lecture on Jan. 13.

Five women who graduated from RIT’s School of Photographic Arts and Sciences will each share their career focus and experiences since graduation. The alumnae—Rebecca Simpson Steele, Megan Rossman, Ashley Poole, Susana Reisman, and Hannah Price—are the featured panelists in the Charles Arnold Lecture at 6 p.m. Jan. 13 in the Chester F. Carlson Center for Imaging Science Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.

Steele is the deputy photo editor at Prevention magazine. She was formerly senior photo editor and associate photo editor at Budget Travel magazine and photo editor for Kiplinger’s quarterly issue magazines.

Rossman, a multimedia journalist for The Washington Post, shoots and edits photos, video, and audio packages. In 2009, Rossman won first place in the White House News Photographers Association’s feature audio slideshow category for her work on “A Mother’s Risk.” The multimedia story chronicled mortality rates of women dying from childbirth in Sierra Leone. The project was also a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in international reporting.

Poole, who lives in Los Angeles, exhibits her work in group shows and gallery exhibitions in New York, California, Pennsylvania, and Florida.

Reisman is an internationally exhibiting artist who runs Circuit Gallery in Toronto. Her work has been exhibited in Venezuela, across the United States and Canada, and is in private and public collections.

Price, who lives and works in the Philadelphia area, is a photographic artist primarily interested in American adolescent minorities. Her work won second prize in the juried exhibition “Next: Emerging Philadelphia Photographers” at the Philadelphia Photo Arts Center, selected by Ariel Shanberg of the Center for Photography at Woodstock.
