School of Film and Animation among best in country
Animation Career Review highlights program’s post-graduation placements with top studios
Rochester Institute of Technology’s School of Film and Animation is once again among the top film schools in the country as ranked by Animation Career Review, a leading online source of information for aspiring animation and game design professionals.
In three distinct rankings, RIT places 15th nationally (top 10 percent of schools considered), 13th among private schools and colleges, and sixth on the East Coast.
In preparing its 2016 rankings, the website considered hundreds of U.S. schools that offered programs geared toward animation. RIT’s SOFA program once again received high marks for academic reputation; admission selectivity; the program’s depth, breadth and faculty; value as it relates to tuition; and geographic location.
“Graduates of RIT’s animation programs have found employment at top studios such as DreamWorks, Blue Sky Studios, Industrial Light and Magic, Rhythm and Hues Studios, Disney Animation Studios, Nickelodeon, and Electronic Arts,” the publication writes in SOFA’s profile.
SOFA program offerings include a BFA and MFA in film and animation, and a BS degree in motion picture science, giving RIT one of the broadest curriculum choices in the country.
“We are proud to once again be selected one of the best film and animation schools in the nation,” said Malcolm Spaull, administrative chair of SOFA. “The ranking is testimony to the relevance of the courses and full curriculum designed by our faculty, and the breadth of approach and creativity that they consistently encourage. We nurture filmmakers with the ability to grow and evolve, not only in their education here but throughout their careers.”
Animation Career Review launched in 2011, and the online resource began publishing regional and national rankings the following year. The site currently receives approximately 120,000 unique visitors per month, predominantly from the United States and Canada.
