Animation Career Review recognizes program’s depth, breadth and faculty
Rochester Institute of Technology’s School of Film and Animation is ranked 11th in the country by Animation Career Review, a leading online source of information for aspiring animation and game design professionals.
In preparing its 2014 rankings, the website considered hundreds of U.S. schools that offered programs geared toward animation. RIT’s SOFA program received high marks for academic reputation; admission selectivity; the program’s depth, breadth and faculty; value as it relates to tuition; and geographic location.
“The Rochester Institute of Technology has a long history,” the publication writes in SOFA’s profile ranking. “The school, which also has campuses in Dubai and Eastern Europe, houses the competitive College of Imaging Arts and Sciences—home of the School of Film and Animation. The School offers some of the nation’s top programs for animators and other artists.”
SOFA program offerings include a BFA and MFA in film and animation, and a BS in motion picture science. American Career Review also ranked RIT’s SOFA program No. 5 in the Northeast region.
“Our curriculum, which has been developed by our faculty, students and successful alumni, is rooted in a shared passion for filmmaking,” said Malcolm Spaull, administrative chair of SOFA. “Our Bachelor of Science program in motion picture science gives us the broadest curriculum choices anywhere, and our BFA degree in film and animation production is one of the most selective programs at RIT.”
Animation Career Review launched in 2011 and the online resource began publishing regional and national rankings the following year. The site currently receives approximately 120,000 unique visitors per month, predominantly from the United States and Canada.
