Students blend art, technology in Interactive Music Video Experiences class

For a live AR concert a team of students orchestrated as part of the Interactive Music Video Experience class, a phoenix rises onto a large LED wall in the soundstage of MAGIC Spell Studios. The creative elements were incorporated into a live performance by rapper Chi TheRealist.

A live AR concert, a relaxing VR experience featuring music from a local band, and a handmade interactive instrument were among the innovative, music-based projects interdisciplinary teams of RIT students had a chance to produce during the spring 2024 semester.

The Interactive Music Video Experiences class represented a unique opportunity for students in the College of Art and Design, Golisano College for Computing and Information Sciences and School of Individualized Study. They were able to apply their ingenuity and technological sensibilities in collaboration with local professional musicians. The eclectic group of programmers, designers, artists, photographers, and filmmakers worked together to create interactive experiences incorporating the music of the local artists they partnered with.

The class is taught by Susan Lakin, professor in the College of Art and Design and director of Frameless Labs, and Joe Geigel, professor in the Department of Computer Science
