Bag Textile Designs
RIT Industrial Design students in assistant professor Melissa Dawson’s Junior ID Studio I course during the fall 2019 semester focused on bag design using textiles.
Each student was responsible for researching, designing and constructing their own unique bag design for a specific customer and market of their choice, employing designated fabrics and various support materials, findings and trims. Students documented the development of their textile designs and presented their process and finished bag to the class at the end of the semester. The students development process of the textile designs included trend and style research, competitive shopping analysis, inspiration board development, customer profiling, sketching, paper prototype construction, pattern development, muslin prototypes and final product creation.
