The Constructed Image Fall 2011
The Constructed Image is a special topics course designed to introduce students to theoretical, aesthetic and technical strategies for the production of fine art photographs. Students will be introduced to the rich history of the constructed image and the impact this working methodology has on the contemporary dialog in the field of photography.
This course will be centered on the construction of photographs in front of the camera lens; working on post–production within the computer is accepted but will not be the focus of this course. Lighting demonstrations and creative assignments will be included as a way to help participants’ problem solve and explore different possibilities surrounding the idea of the constructed image. This course will also consist of lectures on historical and contemporary photographers as well as readings and discussions over articles and interviews that focus on photographers who use ‘construction’ in there own studio practice.
