Interstate Type Throw Down Competition
I helped to organize a group of students who participated in the Type Fight/Multi-State Type Throw-Down. The students from other schools who participated were seniors and a few juniors, but the RIT students were only sophomores. They did a fantastic job— especially considering that it was finals week.
Background:
The Interstate Type Throw Down is a project initiated by Jeff Pulaski, Assistant Professor of Graphic Design at Wichita State University and Joey Hannaford, Assistant Professor of Graphic Design at the University of West Georgia, with the full blessing of Drew Roper at The Type Fight.
Our goal with this project is to try and get students interested and excited about type through competition with each other. Jeff first did this project in a 2012 class and the students seemed to enjoy the competitive aspect to the project. In this round of fights, we decided to involve students from more schools, inviting Casey McGarr, Assistant Professor of Graphic Design at Texas A& M – Commerce; Scott Mann, Assistant Professor of Art at Coastal Carolina University; and Carol Fillip, Assistant Professor of Design at Rochester Institute of Technology, to join us.
