Archival Collections
The Cary Collection holds hundreds of archival collections related to the history of graphic communication history and practices.
Highlights include the Amateur Newspaper Collection, the Charles E. Pont papers on Frederic W. Goudy, Melbert Cary’s Press of the Woolly Whale Collection, American Type Founders Matrices Collection, the Erich Wronker Collection of Printing Medals, and the archive of calligrapher Paul Standard. The Cary’s deep holdings on type specimens are some of the best in the United States. The Cary Collection also houses the Cary Graphic Design Archive, which preserves the work of significant American graphic designers active from the 1920s to the 1960s, as well as selected contemporary designers working in the modernist traditions.
Archival collections are described in finding aids hosted on ArchivesSpace.
