Power of the Press 2020

The Cary Collection is RIT’s rare book library, which in addition to holding thousands of books and archives, also maintains working vintage printing presses. Cary Associate Curator Amelia Fontanel conducted several remote classes in Fall 2020 where she introduced the importance of printed posters throughout history in public messaging. Then the classes brainstormed poster texts and virtually participated in typesetting and hand-printing letterpress poster editions. The resulting messages are timely and demonstrate the lasting power of the press in communication.
