Alumnus to discuss 18th-century printing press
Recent engineering grad Seth Gottlieb will speak about the 18th-century wooden printing press that he and his classmates recreated for their senior design class. Following the talk, the press will be used to print new copies of one of the 18th century’s most iconic documents: the First Amendment. -

Students provide 3D-printed arm to teen in Rwanda
Laura Alderfer and Ken Postel, both undergraduate students in RIT’s Kate Gleason College of Engineering, traveled to Rwanda to deliver a 3D-printed prosthetic arm after spending the fall semester designing, printing and testing it for a 19-year-old boy in Rwanda. -

FIRST Robotics honors President Bill Destler
RIT President Bill Destler and Xerox Corp. Director of Community Relations Elissa Nesbitt were each presented with the FIRST Robotics Finger Lakes Regional Competition’s Volunteer of the Year Award. The award is given to individuals and companies that have made major commitments to FIRST Robotics. -

FIRST Robotics regional kicks off March 17
Robotic “adventure clubs” are mobilizing for Steamworks, the 2017 FIRST Robotics competition. This year, 49 high school teams from New York, Ohio and Canada will meet for the Finger Lakes Regional on March 17-18 at RIT. -

AMPrint, imaging science centers receive grants
RIT’s AMPrint Center and Chester F. Carlson Center for Imaging Science received grants from FuzeHub, the statewide New York Manufacturing Extension Partnership Program center, to purchase equipment for use in center laboratories focused on advanced manufacturing research and new product development. -

Researcher studying medical device cybersecurity
Mehran Mozaffari Kermani, an assistant professor of electrical engineering, recently received a grant from the National Institute of Standards and Technology to design security measures for computing systems that will protect wearable and implanted medical devices from cyberattacks. -

Team spends winter break helping refugees in Rwanda
Six RIT students and a professor spent winter break collecting GPS data points and conducting economic surveys for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees at a refugee camp in Rwanda. The team will use the data to create maps to help improve the lives of refugees and camp organizers.
