More than 1,500 students from 100 national and international collegiate race teams competed June 2-5 at RIT’s Gordon Field House and the Hogback Hill Motocross site in Palmyra, N.Y. Several teams aced the course, but at the end of the weekend, RIOT Racing, RIT’s Baja race team, conquered the field.

National and international collegiate Baja racecars started arriving at RIT for the Baja SAE Rochester event this weekend—a challenge that is as much about daring and nerve as it is about exceptional engineering design.

RIT’s unique blend of education at the intersection of technology, the arts, and design is in demand. Officials expect RIT to welcome the second largest class ever this fall and call it the most selective group of first-year students in the university’s history.

RIT students can soon begin earning a minor in an emerging field that could disrupt the science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) disciplines. RIT students can now take classes toward a minor in quantum information science and technology.

Robert Eller, research professor emeritus in RIT’s College of Engineering Technology, was recently honored by the Gravure Cylinder Society as a member of the class of 2021. Recognized for his research in reinventing the gravure cylinder—the image carrier in gravure printing— Eller was formally inducted into the national society in April.

RIT celebrated its 137th academic convocation Friday morning in the Gordon Field House and Activities Center. Keynote speaker Kimberly Bryant, founder of the nonprofit organization Black Girls CODE, told the graduates to be proud of their achievement, be excited about what is next in their lives, and remember—with grace—what it took to get to this milestone.
