STEM Sign Lexicons Symposium

The Fourth Workshop of 2023 Global Year of STEM Sign Lexicons will be held at RIT/NTID on November 17 and 18. Friday, November 17th will open with NTID President, Dr. Gerry Buckley and NRSC Director, Mark Sommer’s opening remarks. At 6:30 pm, there will be an icebreaker activity related to STEM. NTID’s Sunshine 2.0 will give a performance at 7 to 7:30 pm. The Keynote presentation at 7:30 – 8:30 pm , “Deaf Steve Irwin” by Brandon Call who is a science teacher at the Florida School for the Deaf and blind and a creator of Wild Saga with Call. Caroline Solomon, Professor of Biology at Gallaudet University, will talk about the Global Year of Stem Sign Language Lexicons at 8:30 to 9 pm. On Saturday, November 18th, light breakfast and introductions will be at 8:30 – 9 am. Icebreaker activities will be at 9 – 9 :30 am. The presenters for STEM Sign Language Lexicon Share and Tell part from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm (with lunch break) are Brandon Call, Audrey Cameron & Liam McMulkin, Kim Kurz, Colin Lualdi, Jeanne Reis,Britta Schwall and Carey Ballard, Michael Stutlz, Barbara Speciker, Caroline Solomon and Alicia Wooten. The thinking tank discussion will take place from 2:30 to 3:30 pm and the final discussion will be from 3:30 to 4:30 pm. This symposium is being co-sponsored by the NTID STEM Regional Center, MSSE and NTID Sign Language Assessment and Resource Center. Registration is free but seating is limited.
