Thomas Pederson

Professor
Professor Thomas Pederson, a 25-year long ACM member. His research focuses on mixed reality and wearable, context-aware computing, with over 60 publications. In his career, he has worked at academic institutions in 5 European countries, managed 3 research labs, supervised multiple PhD students, and has acted extensively on expert review panels for research funding agencies (e.g. Academy of Finland 2016–). Pederson has chaired an international conference (300+ participants) and several workshops, including one with IRES PI Alm \cite{Alm2020}. He serves on the steering committee for the NordiCHI conference. He has developed an MS course in human-AI interaction for AI and automation students and manages the UW Open Lab, which combines AI with extended reality, available for this collaboration. Pederson supervises PhD students in UW PT and WIL PhD programs. He visited RIT with Swedish PhD students in 2022. Pederson's appointments as scientific commissioner in the National Swedish Ethical Review Authority, as well as manager of UW's Center for Sustainability, also resonates with this IRES project. Pederson is involved in externally funded research projects, including research on AI and augmented reality to support operators in restarting production machinery.
