RIT names LaVerne McQuiller Williams associate provost for Faculty Affairs
LaVerne McQuiller Williams, professor and current interim dean of the College of Liberal Arts, has been named associate provost for Faculty Affairs at the university, effective Sept. 1. In this role, McQuiller Williams will oversee the Office of Faculty Affairs, within the Office of the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs.

RIT names Anna Westerstahl Stenport new dean of College of Liberal Arts
Stenport is currently a professor of global studies and chair of the School of Modern Languages at Georgia Institute of Technology’s Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts. She was selected as the RIT dean following a nationwide search and will begin her new leadership role Sept. 1.

RIT’s College of Liberal Arts adds two new bachelor’s degrees in history and English
Two new degree programs within RIT’s College of Liberal Arts were approved by the New York State Department of Education and will be accepting students this fall. The Bachelor of Science degrees in history and English will be open to new students as well as existing RIT students who want a new or double major.

College of Liberal Arts honors students for writing excellence
RIT's College of Liberal Arts honored student achievements in writing with 15 writing awards on Friday, March 19. This year marks the 41st year the awards were presented, though the first time the ceremony was held virtually.

RIT Libraries hosts conference on race, gender in scholarship
Disparities of race, gender, and ethnicity in scholarly publishing will be the focus of a conference hosted by RIT Libraries this Friday. “Scholarship in the 21st century: Race and Gender in Scholarship” will take place from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Oct. 30. Registration is required.

RIT and Syracuse University College of Law enter into 3+3 admissions agreement
RIT has partnered with Syracuse University College of Law to establish a “3+3” program for students interested in earning a law degree. A memorandum of understanding between the two universities was recently signed to allow students to complete three years of liberal arts and other studies at RIT, then transfer to the College of Law for three years to complete their doctorate in law.

LaVerne McQuiller Williams named COLA interim dean
LaVerne McQuiller Williams, senior associate dean of RIT’s College of Liberal Arts, has been named interim COLA dean effective June 1. McQuiller Williams succeeds Dean James Winebrake, who is leaving RIT on June 30 to become provost and vice chancellor of Academic Affairs at the University of North Carolina Wilmington.

Nearly 30 faculty and staff members from RIT’s College of Liberal Arts have volunteered to help their colleagues run errands, walk their dogs or just offer a voice of support during this period of social distancing.

College of Liberal Arts earns 2019 Changing Hearts and Minds Award
RIT’s College of Liberal Arts received recognition for its success diversifying the university’s faculty ranks and helping to advance RIT’s overall commitment to diversity. The college earned RIT’s 2019 Changing Hearts and Minds Award, sponsored annually by RIT’s Office of the Provost and the Office of Faculty Diversity and Recruitment.
