Crime Analysis Centers Managed by RIT’s CPSI Helped Reduce Gun Violence, Earned Award

Cited for work that dramatically reduces gun violence in the state, the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services Monroe Crime Analysis Center and the North Country Crime Analysis Center were among those honored with an Excellence in the Field of Criminal Justice Award

“CPSI continues to support New York state efforts to enhance crime analysis. Effective crime analysis facilitates the administration of a justice in a manner that is effective, efficient, and fair. We are honored to be doing this work alongside change makers across the state,” said Irshad Altheimer, director of CPSI and Ellen M. Granberg Endowed Professor with the Department of Criminal Justice in the College of Liberal Arts. 

The BJA is a component of the Office of Justice ProgramsU.S. Department of Justice. This summer, it announced its first-ever Excellence in the Field of Criminal Justice Awards, which recognize innovations in public safety and significant contributions to our nation’s criminal justice system. The awards recognized the success of individuals, teams, organizations, and agencies.

CPSI is an RIT multi-disciplinary research center that examines strategies to reduce crime and enhance the administration of justice. It provides program evaluation, data analytics, and project management services to area law enforcement, community non-profits, and other criminal justice professionals, while also advancing knowledge of the nature and causes of crime and violence. RIT criminal justice graduate and undergraduate students engage in impactful research, strategic planning, program evaluation, and policy analysis through the Center.
