Gen. John Batiste Discusses Impact of Diversity on Leadership in Organizations

Retired military officer and president of Klein Steel speaks at RIT May 5

Retired Army Maj. Gen. John Batiste, who commanded the First Infantry Division in Iraq and is currently president of Klein Steel, will present a public discussion on the value of diversity in being a good leader at Rochester Institute of Technology May 5.

His talk, “Diversity Cultivated in Leadership,” will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Louise M. Slaughter Building, room 2210, and is free and open to the public. RIT students developed the event as part of the course, Seminar in Management: A Business Case for Diversity and Equity, offered through the E. Phillip Saunders College of Business.

Batiste spent over three decades in the United States Army, rising to the rank of major general and serving as senior military assistant to Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz from 2001–2002 and as commanding general of the First Infantry Division from 2002–2005. Since his retirement he has served as president of Klein Steel Service and earned national notice as an advocate for ending the war in Iraq.
