New Energy Jazz Orchestra Performs at RIT

Concert features jazz standards and several original compositions

Rochester’s New Energy Jazz Orchestra will present a concert of original compositions and classical jazz repertory at 3 p.m. March 21 in Ingle Auditorium on the Rochester Institute of Technology campus. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children.

New Energy is a Rochester-based big band ensemble co-directed by Jonathon Kruger, associate professor of music, and Carl Atkins, professor and director of the music program, both at RIT. The band has performed and recorded widely including appearances at the Rochester International Jazz Festival and the Monroe Community College Jazz Festival. New Energy can also be heard on the CD Sands of Time.

The concert will include the premiere of Atkins’ Celestial Boogie and the pieces, Isabel The Liberator, composed by Larry Willis and arranged by David Gibson, and After the Morning, composed by John Hicks and arranged by David Gibson. For more information contact Atkins at 475-4439.
