RIT Libraries hosts conference on race, gender in scholarship
Zoom event set for Oct. 30
Disparities of race, gender, and ethnicity in scholarly publishing will be the focus of a conference hosted by RIT Libraries this Friday.
“Scholarship in the 21st century: Race and Gender in Scholarship” will take place from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Oct. 30. Registration is required.
Speakers will address their work creating and editing journals and tailoring resources to different audiences in the scholarly publishing community. They will also discuss administering research efforts in a college focused on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
Moderator is Laverne McQuiller-Williams, interim dean of RIT’s College of Liberal Arts. Panelists are:
- Jocelyn Dawson, project leader, Toolkits for Equity and journals marketing manager at Duke University Press;
- Rebecca Sumner, assistant dean for research, RIT’s College of Engineering Technology; and
- Seretha Williams, professor of English and women's and gender studies at Augusta University, and editor of Third Stone Journal on Afro-Futurism.
