Stan McKenzie Salon Series kicks off Oct. 9

RIT’s Liberal Arts Hall is the setting for the formal dedication of the Stan McKenzie Salon Series Oct. 9.

The RIT community is invited to celebrate the official grand opening and dedication of the Stan McKenzie Salon Series, 4-6 p.m. Oct. 9 in the Stan McKenzie Commons on the first floor of RIT’s Liberal Arts Hall. The event includes a musical performance by Joseph Fornieri, professor of political science; reception and ribbon-cutting ceremony; and a featured lecture, “Traumatic Images,” by Jessica Lieberman, assistant professor, Performing Arts and Visual Culture.

The series, created as part of the Stan McKenzie Salon Endowed Fund—named for the former provost and retired longtime English department faculty member—will allow students, faculty and staff to discuss current research and events, bring speakers to campus and help with event marketing.

In January, McKenzie pledged $300,000 to the fund to allow faculty, staff and students to gather to discuss research and current events, provide an honorarium to featured speakers and provide released time for a faculty coordinator each academic year. In addition, extensive renovations completed The Stan McKenzie Commons in Liberal Arts Hall and included new equipment, furniture, technology upgrades and hospitality services, as well as renovations to the building’s entrances and exits.
