Helping people connect, even when they speak different languages, is what drives Susannah Johnson (applied modern language and culture–Japanese option).
Johnson and five other RIT students connected virtually with groups of middle school students in Japan, helping the middle schoolers practice their conversational English skills while the RIT students practice and improved their fluency in Japanese.
"The smiles on their faces I'll never forget," said Johnson.
Johnson says experiences like this, plus a strong co-op program and study abroad options, are what makes majoring in a language at RIT so special.
