Matt Hartensveld named as a SEMICON West 20 Under 30 future microelectronics industry leader
From building a cleanroom in his family home while he was in high school to becoming an entrepreneur and Ph.D., it is no wonder that RIT alumnus Matt Hartensveld is viewed as a future leader in the microelectronics industry. He was recently named SEMICON West 20 under 30 awardee, given by the organization to recognize the microelectronic industry’s brightest young leaders.

RIT’s Center for Urban Entrepreneurship hosts ROC the Pitch event Aug. 24
Tickets are available for ROC the Pitch, an annual entrepreneurship competition hosted by RIT’s Center for Urban Entrepreneurship. The competition, featuring six local start-ups who will pitch their business plans to guests and a panel of judges, will be held from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. Aug. 24 at Hyatt Regency Rochester.

Camp Tiger provides student from Afghanistan with first educational experience in more than two years
Mariam Khalil, 15, a camper at RIT’s Camp Tiger, joined two summer camp experiences this year – SMASH Camp and Community STEM Challenge. She said it’s her first educational experience in more than two years after the Taliban gained control in her country and has forbidden all girls from getting an education, no matter their age. She’ll start school this fall in Rochester, and has an interest for subjects such as math and science.

RIT is renaming Nathaniel Rochester Hall after Fredericka Douglass Sprague Perry, granddaughter of Frederick Douglass and a former student of the Rochester Athenaeum and Mechanics Institute, which later became RIT.
