    Careers 2.0: Rita's story

    Rita Thomas, one of the participants in RIT's Surface Mount Electronics Assembly Training for Veterans, spent several years in the U.S. Army’s 82nd Airborne Division stationed at Fort Bragg, N.C., and later in Heidelberg, Germany. She served as a satellite communications operator and then as a site supervisor for the USAREUR Secure Communications Network. Here she shares some of her story, the role she played in the military, her parent’s influence on her career and how she came to be a part of the RIT training.

    Program gives new pathway to RIT for students of area community colleges

    Under the new program, first-year students at Monroe, Finger Lakes or Genesee Community colleges can enroll to complete a bachelor’s degree from RIT. The students would attend RIT for their second year, and after completing that year, would receive their associate degree from their community college. They would then go on to finish their bachelor’s degree from RIT.

    RIT awarded NSF funding to conceptualize Quantum Photonic Institute

    The National Science Foundation awarded RIT a grant to conceptualize a new institute that would be at the forefront of quantum science and technology. RIT received $150,000 in funding from the NSF’s Quantum Leap Challenge Institutes program to create a plan for an institute that would expand quantum science and technology capabilities through quantum photonic integrated circuits.
