    RIT this week welcomes its most academically qualified freshman class, with an average SAT score expected to exceed 1300 for the first time. With the new students, total RIT enrollment is expected to surpass 19,000, the highest in history.

    RIT welcomes 2018 class of Destler/Johnson scholars

    RIT will welcome the ninth class of Destler/Johnson Rochester City Scholars at a ceremony on Monday. Since 2010, the program has provided more than 200 graduates of the Rochester City School District and Rochester charter schools with the opportunity to attend RIT tuition-free.

    RIT will be well represented at the 2018 Greater Rochester Excellence and Achievement in Technology Awards, presented by Digital Rochester Inc., which recognize individuals and organizations from the Rochester area who are making contributions to innovation and technology.

    Program exposes teens to college experience

    RIT’s Upward Bound Classic program wrapped up its first year with a residential summer program that provided Rochester-area high schoolers a taste of college, including living on RIT’s campus, completing academic workshops, visiting other area colleges and speaking with community leaders.

    Diversity initiatives in STEM honored by magazine

    Women in Engineering (WE@RIT) and Engineers of Color Creating Opportunities (ECCO), two cultural and gender diversity programs at RIT, were recognized as Inspiring Programs in STEM by INSIGHT into Diversity magazine.

    RIT team identifies Frederick Douglass land deed

    A research team from RIT has identified a land deed dating from the Civil War that shows abolitionist Frederick Douglass purchased property in what is now downtown Rochester. The deed is a revelation to scholars seeking to understand Douglass’s role as a businessman and landholder in Rochester.
