    David Long appointed director of MAGIC Center

    David Long, associate professor in RIT’s College of Art and Design, has been appointed director of RIT’s Center for Media, Arts, Games, Interaction and Creativity and MAGIC Spell Studios. Long is founder and chair of the motion picture science program in RIT’s School of Film and Animation.

    Venture Creations companies place in accelerator competition

    Two client companies in RIT’s Venture Creations incubator have won recognition and prize money from the New York state-funded Luminate NY accelerator program. Positive Science won third place in the competition and $250,000, and Molecular Glasses won $10,000 and the Audience Choice Award.

    RIT Formula Racing team competes in UK competition

    RIT’s Formula race team will cross the Atlantic to compete in Formula Student UK as one of 93 international collegiate race teams competing at the 20th anniversary event. The competition takes place July 11-15 in Northamptonshire, just north of London.

    Exhibits highlight 50 years of deaf art and history

    As part of its 50th anniversary activities, NTID will host a “50 Artists 50 Years” exhibition through Oct. 20. On Friday, as part of the 50th anniversary reunion festivities, a triptych—or three-paneled work—by deaf artist Susan Dupor will be unveiled.

    New programs help students with autism gain confidence, employment

    Two new programs at RIT are helping students with autism prepare for interviews and land jobs. Eight students recently completed a three-week Career Ready Boot Camp, and RIT’s Neurodiverse Hiring Initiative has helped dozens of students network and find co-op work.

    David Rodriguez ’92 is the founder of inverSOL, a client company of Venture Creations business incubator that produces solar generator systems. The company will open a manufacturing and retail facility in Puerto Rico to help those living in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria.

    Engineering professor named Inventor of the Year

    For his innovative work impacting advanced microelectronics, Bruce Smith, a professor and director of the microsystems engineering doctoral program at RIT, was honored as the 2018 Inventor of the Year by the Rochester Intellectual Property Law Association.
