NTID gets $1M for deaf scientists-in-training program
The National Institute of General Medical Sciences has awarded a grant to RIT that is expected to provide $1.025 million in funding over five years to develop a Scientists-In-Training Program for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Undergraduates. -

RIT is among the universities included in the 2018 edition of the Fiske Guide to Colleges. The guide is a selective, subjective and systematic look at more than 300 colleges and universities in the U.S., Canada and Great Britain aimed at selecting “the best and most interesting.” -

Marvin “Tim” Albert has been named director of NTID’s Student Life Team and will supervise and oversee co-curricular events including clubs and Greek life for RIT/NTID’s 1,200 deaf and hard-of-hearing students. -

Student group wins award for sustainable shaver
RIT’s student chapter of Engineers for a Sustainable World won an award in the national Cradle to Cradle Challenge for their model of a sustainable razor that could help decrease the environmental impact of billions of disposable razors that are discarded each year. -

Stephanie Smith Albert has been named the first director of diversity and inclusion at NTID. She most recently was the director of student life at Ohio School for the Deaf in Columbus, Ohio. -

Book explores work of wildlife artist Arthur Singer
The biography Arthur Singer: the Wildlife Art of an American Master, written by his sons Paul and Alan Singer, documents the life and work of one of the world’s finest painters of birds. The book is published by RIT Press. -

AMPrint Center receives liquid metal 3D printer
High costs of powdered metals and the need for 3D printing/additive manufacturing equipment that can accommodate these materials are challenges that are being met by RIT and Vader Systems. RIT recently installed Vader’s first Mk1 liquid metal 3D printer in the AMPrint Center.
