RIT named best online college in New York state
TheBestSchools.org ranking based on course variety, customized degree programs and ‘virtual concierge’ to aid in course selection
A report from TheBestSchools.org has named Rochester Institute of Technology the top online college in New York. According to the article “The Best Online College in Each of America’s Fifty States,” rankings were based on academic excellence, faculty strength, online teaching methods, reputation, awards, and the number of online degree programs offered.
Cited in the report was RIT’s “modular approach to curriculum, which allows students to choose building blocks from several disciplines to create a program suited to their personal or professional goals,” as well as the option of providing “adult students with completely online and blended courses, many of which begin several times each year.” Also noted were RIT’s undergraduate degrees in applied arts and sciences and undergraduate certificates in health systems administration and integrated electronics, and the more than 20 graduate degrees and advanced certification options. Additionally, TheBestSchools.org listed the ‘virtual concierge,’ an enrollment advising and academic support service, as a benefit for online students.
“RIT Online provides adult learners with a highly immersive, success-oriented learning experience. Our system of modular courses, stackable credentials and accelerated options allow students to efficiently and affordably pursue exactly what they need at a pace that fits their career goals and lifestyle—whether that’s an RIT master’s or bachelor’s degree, an RIT certificate, or simply a new competency,” said Therese Hannigan, interim director of RIT Online. “RIT Online continually identifies new online opportunities and expands its portfolio of innovative, career-focused, demand-based learning products that reflect the RIT brand and emphasize RIT’s academic strengths, world-class faculty, and diverse student community.”
For three decades, U.S. News & World Report has ranked RIT among the nation’s leading comprehensive universities. RIT is featured in The Princeton Review’s 2015 edition of The Best 379 Colleges, its Guide to 332 Green Colleges and The Fiske Guide to Colleges 2015.
