Special exhibits will include ‘Selections: The Archive’, a view into the permanent collection of the Alfred Ceramic Art Museum focused on recent acquisitions in context with other major works, and ‘Paul S Briggs: Knot Stories’, an exhibition of ceramic sculpture by artist Paul S. Briggs inspired by Black Poetry which transmutes stories of suffering into songs of perseverance. We will then board the bus to Hornell for a sandwich buffet at Marino’s Restaurant that includes:

After lunch, we will walk across the street to the Hornell Erie Depot Museum, established in 2005 by the City of Hornell to preserve the history and mementos of the men and women of the Hornell area, and of the Hornell area railroad industry; and to educate the public on the history of the people and of the industry which formed the backbone of the Hornell community. We will have a guided tour, with time to explore on our own and visit their gift shop.

Lastly we will visit Cider Creek Hard Cidery in Canisteo, where hard cider is created on the premises, for a tasting. The owner’s vast personal collection of taxidermy on is on display and a sight to see.

Related Lectures (Hybrid Format)

On Tuesday, June 20 at 10 am, all members are invited to a free featuring three speakers. The first speaker is Rose VanTyne, who has taught both youth and adult ceramics courses at the Creative Workshop at the Memorial Art Gallery since 2008. In 2015, Rose was invited to develop a new program, Expanded Learning Collaboration, with RCSD school #23 to make connections to art through clay. Rose will be joined by Paul Hart, who has taught at the Creative Workshop since 2003. His line of functional Stoneware and Raku is represented locally by the gallery Craft Company No. 6. The second speaker is Otto Vondrak. Growing up riding commuter trains serving the suburbs of New York City led to a life-long interest in the history of trains and railroads. A 1999 graduate of RIT's graphic design program at the College of Imaging Arts & Sciences, he joined the staff of Railfan & Railroad magazine as associate editor in 2010. In 2019, he was also named the editor of Railroad Model Craftsman magazine (both are published by White River Productions). A volunteer at the Rochester & Genesee Valley Railroad Museum in Rush, he was elected president in 2018.

The Erie Railroad Rochester Division dates back to the formation of the Rochester & Genesee Valley Railroad in 1851, building south from Rochester to Avon. One of the first railroads serving the Genesee Valley, a large portion of this line is operated today by the Livonia, Avon & Lakeville Railroad.
