Computer-based Phones
The university has moved to a computer-based phone system model. The computer based phone system provides a user-friendly experience in one seamless view. Your computer based phone system may be accessed any time, any place. Other features include:
- Calling
- Transferring
- Conferencing
- Voicemail (with voicemail to email)
- No need to remember a voicemail password, single-sign on and duo
- Auto synced contacts with all RIT departments (no need to look elsewhere for phone numbers)
- Faxing
In compliance with the RAY BAUMS Act, your current location is required to make calls from your computer-based phone. Learn More >
Each desk phone has an emergency location associated with it. For safety and security purposes, all RIT desk phone moves must be requested through the RIT Service Center.
Did you know you can fax right through your Avaya Cloud Office computer phone?
On-campus Xerox printers still have faxing capabilities. No need to dial 9 when sending a fax using a physical fax machine. Learn more by visiting Managed Print Services.
Employees with an active RIT 475 phone number are eligible to receive an RIT owned headset. For more information please contact your phone coordinator.

Employees and/or departments who may qualify for a desk phone include:
- Employees who work 100% on campus.
- Employees who work in reception areas where several employees staff the area in shifts. (For example: student financial services or health center)
