Academic Advising

Advising is a collaborative education process whereby you and your advisors are partners in meeting essential learning outcomes, promoting your academic success, and outlining the steps for achievement of your personal, academic, and career goals.

Each student is assigned an academic adviser who provides counsel on course selection, curriculum checklists, degree progress and information on RIT services and policies. Advisors, based on their expertise, guide their engaged and responsible advisees in their educational and advising experiences.

Each student is also assigned a faculty advisor who provides research, career and graduate school guidance. Faculty advisors are experts in their academic discipline, having taught, researched and published in their scientific field.

Your advisors, both academic and faculty, are important partners in your educational journey. You can locate your advisor’s names on the “Advisors” tile in Student Information System (SIS). Click on the “details” link to find out additional information about the advisors, such as their role and email address.

To access STARFISH through SIS:

  1. Go to the Student Information System webpage.
  2. Login using your RIT username and password
  3. Click on the Starfish icon on your Student Home page

This will bring you to the Starfish My Success Network page. From here you can set up a meeting with your Academic Advisor.

From the navigation menu in the top left corner, you can navigate to your Profile, Upcoming meetings, and Dashboard.
