Invitation to the Liberal Arts - Arts and Design Grant Writers' Workshop, March 9-10, 2022

Office of the Vice President of Research (OVPR), the College of Art and Design (CAD), and the College of Liberal Arts (CLA) seeks to provide seed funding to support faculty in CAD and CLA in their efforts to develop their research agendas, scholarly productivity, and position them for external funding and prestigious fellowships from a range of funding sources: federal, state, foundation, international, corporate, and private. The call is open to faculty who seek to apply for prestigious fellowships (ACLS, Guggenheim, Fulbright, etc.); to be PIs on grants; or to be co-PIs on large interdisciplinary, multi-applicant, or collaborative projects with other faculty PIs at RIT. Eligibility

Eligibility for seed funding awards is restricted to RIT CAD and CLA faculty whose appointment includes expectations for research, externally sponsored projects, fellowships and awards. Faculty who hold current grants are welcome to apply.
You must also sign up for the VPR's Liberal Arts - Arts and Design Grant Writers' Workshop offered in March 2022.  We recommend signing up for at least one writing workshop, grants development support group, or mentoring opportunity provided free of charge to faculty by the National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity (https://www.facultydiversity.org/). RIT has an institutional membership to NCFDD. In addition, we recommend reading beofre or after the workshio, Paul J. Silva’s How to Write A Lot: A Practical Guide to Academic Writing (2nd ed, 2018; if you do not have a copy, the Deans’ offices can provide).

Awards

A selected number of proposals from the workshop will be funded jointly by VPR, CAD, and CLA.  Awards are for single investigators in the amount of $5,000 for a period of one year.

Deadline

Proposals are due by 5:00 p.m. on February 28, 2022. Ongoing Support for the CLA and CAD Grant Writers Community:

Ongoing Workshops in 2022. All CAD and CLA faculty who are awarded seed funding will be invited to share their work in progress toward developing a competitive proposal in a series of workshops during summer and fall semester 2022. These workshops will involve peer-to-peer feedback and intellectual engagement. Participation in these workshops is not required but will be strongly encouraged. CAD, CLA, and VPR are expecting to dedicate staff support to organize and facilitate these sessions,

Liberal Arts - Arts and Design Grant Writers’ Workshop.  We look forward to seeing you at the Liberal Arts - Arts and Design Grant Writers’ Workshop March 9-10, 2022.  The workshop runs for two consecutive days, starting at 8:00 a.m. and ending at 4:30 p.m. You will receive a final agenda at a later date.  You can expect to spend time discussing your proposal with colleagues and you will also participate in a peer review session.  You will have the option of making revisions to your proposal after the Workshop before funding decisions are made.
