On Friday, February 7, 2025, the NIH issued Supplemental Guidance to the 2024 Grants Policy Statement indicating that effective immediately all current and future awards would have a standard F&A/indirect cost “of 15% across all NIH grants for indirect costs in lieu of a separately negotiated rate for indirect costs in every grant.” The full NIH guidance is available here: https://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-OD-25-068.html.
This change has the potential to affect funding and reimbursement at many universities and NIH research activities, including at RIT. We expect more guidance directly from NIH and grant officers on this issue in the coming weeks. Please check the SRS website frequently for updates. For now:
- RIT PIs submitting a proposal to the NIH in the coming weeks, please work directly with your SRS preaward representative as they will have the latest information needed for your budget and submission.
- RIT PIs currently leading an active NIH award, work directly with your SRS representative if there is a question on your specific project. All financial questions on your current NIH award should be address to your SPA representative.
