Eligible Participants: All Faculty
Executive Summary: We are seeking proposals from faculty to revise and re-submit any proposal submitted within the last year that received positive reviews but was not funded. We recognize that statistically the probability of funding increases dramatically with revision and resubmission for almost every sponsoring organization. We will provide resources for faculty to fully address the feedback from these unsuccessful proposals. To be funded under this program, faculty must clearly summarize the reasons they believe they were not funded, what changes to the proposal are planned, what associated additional work may be required, and what program(s) they will be re-submitting to. Additional consideration will be given to revisions that may result in multiple proposals to multiple funding opportunities. Any sponsoring organizations are acceptable (i.e., federal or state agencies, foundations, corporations, etc.).
Award Terms: Awards will be made up to $5,000 for a plan of work.
Due Date: February 15, 2021
Cost Matching: Not required.
Proposal Length: The proposals should be no more than 4 pages in length using 12 pt. Times New Roman font (or some equivalent). An endorsement letter from the Department Head is required and not included in the page limit.
Proposal Guidelines:
Executive Summary (1-page): This is a summary of the entire plan, written in plain business English and explaining the work required to revise the proposal and target(s) for resubmission.
Narrative (2-pages): Provide the details of the previously submitted proposal including the Title, Date of Submission, Agency, Program Name and Number, and Summary of the Budget. Summarize the feedback that you received from the sponsoring organization. (If you did not automatically receive any substantive feedback it is your responsibility to do so in order to be eligible to compete for these funds). Describe in detail the changes you will make to the original proposal and why you feel that this will result in a positive outcome upon resubmission. (If additional preliminary work is required (i.e., additional data, proof-of-concept demonstration, etc.), please describe how it will be obtained). Provide a timeline with milestones which culminated in submission date(s). Identify who will be the major participants and what their responsibilities will be.
Your plan of work should lead to the complete development a revised proposal or proposals. Additional consideration will be given to applicants whose work plans result in more than one proposal.
Budget (1-page): Expenditures must be reasonable, directly related to the proposed project, and must adhere to institutional guidelines. For example, the use of these funds for the purposes of release from departmental responsibilities is permissible. No overhead is to be included.
Endorsement Letter: Include a letter from your department chair. The letter should describe ongoing departmental support for your research and any explicit commitments to the research described in your revised proposal(s).
Proposal Reviews: Include reviews from your original proposal. Please be sure to include any rankings and where appropriate the rubric for these scores.
Deliverables: At the end of the award period, recipients must provide a final draft of the revised proposal(s) and identify the targeted funding program(s). If the deliverables are not met, the home department is responsible for any costs incurred.
