Community accountability helps campus navigate pandemic
What happens when you witness someone who isn’t being as COVID-careful as they should be? An online COVID Violation Reporting Form went live just over a month ago to afford faculty, staff, and students the opportunity to officially log concerns they feel should be addressed.

RIT’s COVID-19 surveillance testing program uses MIT and Harvard laboratory
RIT has started randomized testing to monitor the spread of COVID-19 among students and to facilitate a quick response to potential outbreaks on campus. A randomly selected group of 183 students were tested on Aug. 25, and additional students were tested on Aug. 26 and 27. All results were negative.

Outdoor fitness pods now open for RIT students, faculty, staff
More than 20 outdoor fitness pods have been set up inside tents at the RIT Track and Game Field and are available for RIT students, faculty, and staff. Equipment in the pods include spin bikes, rowing machines, elliptical machines, dumbbells, a step platform bench, jump rope, medium resistance bands, a squat rack, and a weightlifting area, with a deadlift space, an Olympic bar, and a set of weighted plates.

RIT is again considered one of the nation’s best universities for undergraduate education, according to The Princeton Review. The education-services company features RIT in the just-published 2021 edition of its annual book The Best 386 Colleges.

More than 300 RIT students from travel advisory states start college in quarantine
More than 300 RIT students are starting this semester in quarantine at area hotels for 14 days because they are from a state on the New York State travel advisory list. The mandatory quarantine was imposed by New York state officials. When cleared, RIT Housing staff will help the students move to campus with help from a chartered bus company.

RIT students start semester with encouragement and precautions
RIT welcomes a record number of first-year students today as classes begin in a semester that will look like no other due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The new students were welcomed Tuesday afternoon during an online convocation that featured several speakers, livestreamed without an audience from Ingle Auditorium.

RIT has launched a new bias-related incident report form designed to streamline the process for filing complaints involving students or when the parties involved are unknown, such as graffiti.

RIT welcomes new students to campus as staggered move-in process begins
New and returning students will move into the residence halls over the next week, in a carefully staged process aimed at ensuring a safe reopening of the campus amid the COVID-19 pandemic. New students will move in today through Aug. 15; returning students will move in Aug. 16-18.

Changes in RIT dining options promote convenience, safety
Changes are in place at 21 locations on the RIT campus that will serve thousands of breakfasts, lunches, snacks, and dinners to students, faculty, and staff members returning to campus. Online ordering, cashless checkouts, reduced occupancies, outdoor and spaced-out seating, and increased cleaning protocols are all new features offered by RIT Dining in response to COVID-19 precautions.
