Adesola "Dewé" Adedewe, a third-year electrical engineering major, may be thousands of miles from his native Nigeria, but that doesn’t stop him from being recognized by other international students who watched him as a contestant on The Voice: Nigeria, which aired throughout the African continent in 2016.

Before his talk Saturday to thousands as the RIT Student Government distinguished speaker, journalist Anderson Cooper met with members of Student Government to answer their questions about his life experience, his work and the state of government in the United States and the world.

Time is running out to get advance tickets for events at this weekend’s RIT Brick City Homecoming and Family Weekend, starting Friday.

RIT is hosting events to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising, which served as a catalyst for the LGBTQ rights movement in the United States. The RIT Q Center has partnered with student organizations across the campus to host speakers, films and interactive events to reflect on the cultural significance of Stonewall.

RIT honored employees on Tuesday morning with the annual Presidential Awards for Outstanding Staff. The awards are presented to staff members who exemplify outstanding service and dedication to the university and who exhibit a high degree of personal ethics and integrity while consistently demonstrating a strong commitment to student success.

Tim Volkmann, a 22-year veteran of intercollegiate athletics, has been named director of RIT Athletics Communications. Volkmann will be responsible for developing the promotional strategy for 24 Tiger sports, as well as administering the day-to-day operations of the Athletics Communications office.

Next spring and summer, as college students enjoy a well-deserved break from their studies, dozens of RIT students will be restoring hiking trails, helping preserve wetlands, rebuilding communities ravaged by natural disasters and, for the first time, interacting with community members to better understand issues such as food and social justice as part of the Alternative Break program.

Networking is the key that opens many doors to permanent or co-op employment, and it was on display in many ways at RIT’s Fall Career Fair.

RIT Men’s Hockey fans will have new ways to watch games during the 2019-2020 season. The team’s 17 regular season home games will be aired live locally on WBGT my18 and all games hosted by Atlantic Hockey teams will be available to stream via FloHockey.tv.

Live, from the Gene Polisseni Center, it’s RIT Hockey Media Day! RIT SportsZone is hosting the free, open event at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1, in the arena. Tiger Hockey fans will get a preview of the season through featured interviews with men’s and women’s team coaches and players, as well as Lou Spiotti Jr., executive director of intercollegiate athletics at RIT.

More than 260 employing organizations with more than 900 recruiter representatives seeking RIT students and graduates are attending the 2019 Fall University-Wide Career Fair, held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday in the Gordon Field House.

The popular KeyBank Rochester Fringe Festival continues through Saturday, offering hundreds of performances and displays in downtown Rochester, including many showcasing the talents of RIT students, faculty, staff and Osher members.
