RIT student Kerri Zalba usually shows off her talents on the soccer field, but this year, she has expanded her extracurricular activities to include working for the massive COVID-19 Tiger Testing effort happening weekly on campus.

Three fourth-year advertising photography majors—Jordan Hundelt from Seattle, Julia Abbonizio from Downingtown, Pa., and Bianca Ranciato from Wallingford, Conn.—won gold at the the 2021 Rochester ADDY awards, which honor the best in local advertising and cultivate the highest creative standards in the industry.

Renovation work inside RIT’s College of Art and Design—including key areas within the internationally recognized School of Photographic Arts and Sciences—is part of a five-year masterplan that has already begun to renovate, rejuvenate, and transform spaces to meet the growing demands for a college that serves as the university’s intersection of technology, art, and design.

This year’s recognition of RIT’s Alfred L. Davis Distinguished Public Service Award winners will be a double celebration, as faculty and student recipients from 2020 and 2021 are honored April 13. Luane Davis Haggerty will receive the 2021 Four Presidents Distinguished Public Service Award, and Bhuvish Mehta will receive the 2021 Bruce R. James ’64 Distinguished Public Service Award. Thomas Warfield was awarded the 2020 Four Presidents Distinguished Public Service Award, and Çlirim Sheremeti was awarded the 2020 Bruce R. James ’64 Distinguished Public Service Award.

RIT/NTID presents “She Kills Monsters: Virtual Realms,” for four performances, next Friday through April 18. While the audience will watch virtually, the actors will be performing live in several “actor stations” in Lyndon Baines Johnson Hall and its Robert F. Panara Theatre.

Bridget Torsey, a Ph.D. student in RIT’s mathematical modeling program from Buffalo, N.Y., has received the Provost’s Outstanding Graduate Teaching Award. Along with taking rigorous courses, Torsey has been teaching at RIT for eight semesters and working part-time as an engineer at Ortho Clinical Diagnostics in Rochester.

A team of RIT cybersecurity students is moving on to the National Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition (NCCDC), after taking first place at the regional competition March 19–21. The annual event is part of the nation’s largest college-level cyber defense competition.

For RIT student filmmakers who are storytelling in the midst of a pandemic, grey has become the new black. While it’s impossible for any production to eliminate all risk in front of and behind the camera, they’ve had to constantly consider the additional time and safety procedures necessary to achieve the perfect shot.
