RIT campus offers a wide range of options for students to get involved and gain valuable experience while balancing their academic pursuits. Regarding part-time jobs, RIT has numerous on-campus positions available across various departments and facilities. Some popular options include working at one of our 19 dining locations, assisting in campus libraries, labs, or administrative offices, or serving as teaching assistants, research assistants, or graduate assistants.

My experience with finding an on-campus job was good and seamless. After registering for my classes, I applied for various jobs on Career Connect. The job applications had simple requirements like providing an availability schedule and resume. I received an email from the manager of the department I applied to, setting up an interview. After the interview, I secured the job. To complete the process, I visited the Student Employment Office (SEO) and got my SEO card. Upon presenting the card and the email from SEO to my new employer, I began working on campus.

Steps to get an on-campus student employment:

Step 1: Search for a job on the Career Connect website. Be sure to search for on-campus employment.

Step 2: Apply for a job through Career Connect by following the application instructions

Step 3: Once you are offered a job with a tentative start date, schedule an appointment with SEO (Student Employment Office) through Career Connect to complete the federally mandated I-9.

Step 4: Prior to your appointment, complete Part 1 of the I-9.

Step 5: Attend your SEO appointment at your scheduled time to complete Part 2 of I-9. Be sure to bring your appropriate documents. You will also need to confirm your tentative start date.

Step 6: You will be issued an SEO card at the end of your appointment. This card indicates you have been cleared to begin work. You must show this card to your supervisor.

Step 7: Discuss your schedule and training with your supervisor. Then, begin your job.

Step 8: You will receive an email after you are hired with a link to complete New York State required employment notices and enroll in direct deposit.

Step 9: You must have your employment eligibility re-verified each semester.
