Welcome to RIT: Making the Most of Your Graduate School Experience

Hi everyone,

Dhwani Doshi, the Graduate Student Liaison at RIT, here! I'm so excited to welcome you to campus. Graduate school is an amazing journey, and I want to help you hit the ground running.  Here are some insights to ensure a smooth transition and a fulfilling experience:

1. Hit the Ground Running:

Early Arrival: Aim to get to campus a week before classes start. This gives you time to settle in and explore your new surroundings.

Orientation is Key: Don't miss Orientation Week (starting August 18th)! It's packed with essential info you'll need throughout your program.

2. Setting Yourself Up for Success:

Housing: Don't wait! Secure your housing as soon as possible. The earlier you decide, the better your chances of getting your perfect place.

Balance is Essential: Grad school is a marathon, not a sprint. Strive for consistency in your academics, work, meals, and exercise to maintain a healthy body and mind. Check out the academic calendar to plan ahead!

3. Connect and Grow:

Network Like a Pro: Don't be shy! Talk to professors and fellow students, both in and outside your department. These conversations can lead to amazing learning opportunities and valuable connections.

Unlock Campus Resources: RIT offers a ton of resources to support you. Take advantage of academic advisors and tutoring services. Plus, don’t forget about campus life like gyms, outdoor areas, sporting events, and festivals! Don't forget to stay connected with your assigned advisor for ongoing guidance.

5. Explore and Recharge:

Rochester Awaits: This city is close to beautiful state parks and nature trails. Short getaways can be the perfect refresh button, helping you return to campus feeling recharged and ready to tackle anything.

Remember, grad school is more than just academics. It's a chance to grow personally and professionally. Embrace the experience, have fun, and make the most of your time at RIT! Don’t forget to view next step checklists.
