The new AdvanceRIT Women's Leadership Development Certificate has launched!
Utilizing RIT's Talent Roadmap, AdvanceRIT has developed a Women's Leadership Certificate. This certificate consists of a curated set of courses to inspire, empower, and prepare women and faculty to become leaders in an academic environment. The program's objectives are to identify and hone the leadership potential of women faculty and develop leadership skills that will enable women leaders to lead effectively. Malar Hirudayaraj, Associate Professor at the Saunders College of Business, curated the courses based on guidance from the Council for the Representation & Engagement of Women faculty and the AdvanceRIT office. CREW members involved in this initiative included Kim Kurz (NTID), Kara Maki (COS), Sharon Mason (GCCIS), and Karen Tobin (NTID).
Foundations of Leadership covers four main topics related to leadership: 1) Leadership Foundations, 2) Becoming a Leader, 3) Emotional Intelligence, and 4) Interpersonal Communications. The first introduces essential leadership concepts and prepares the participants to lead themselves and others. The learning modules at this level focus on developing a leadership mindset, creating and articulating their leadership philosophy, and cultivating and demonstrating leadership presence. Critical skills required to function as a leader. These include self-awareness, emotional intelligence, and communication (interpersonal, organizational, team, and leadership). The Foundations of Leadership certificate has four modules that include 15 courses. The courses range from 22 minutes to 1.5 hours. An intermediate level will be launched in the Fall semester. Plans are in the works to offer peer accountability groups, related book discussions, &/or in-person workshops. To register and complete the certificate, visit Talent Roadmap.
