Scientists have mapped the DNA of bacteria found within a chronic disease affecting grapevines, a feat they hope will ultimately help protect the multibillion-dollar grape industry that produces juice, jelly, wine and other important products.

RIT President David Munson this morning welcomed back the community, saying that the university is positioned for another exciting academic year.

RIT will welcome the 10th class of Destler/Johnson Rochester City Scholars, a program that has provided more than 200 graduates of the Rochester City School District and Rochester charter schools with the opportunity to attend RIT tuition-free since 2010. RIT will also welcome the first two recipients of the Mark and Maureen Davitt Graduate Education Endowed Scholarship.

RIT Motion Picture Science continued a trend of its alumni and students being recognized by the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers.

Dozens of students and recent alumni were recognized for their design excellence in the global competition.

The 28th annual Undergraduate Research Symposium, held on Aug. 1, is structured as a professional research conference. Research themes included everything from fundamental microbiology to the fine arts.

Lou Spiotti Jr. will begin his 40th season as executive director of Intercollegiate Athletics at RIT this fall. He is one of a few directors in all of college athletics—Division I, II and III—to serve in that position for 40 years.
