Intersections: The RIT Podcast, Ep. 57: In every art course and studio environment at RIT, technology is integral to the delivery of content and production of work. Elizabeth Kronfield, director of the School of Art and School for American Crafts, and Abigail Benkovich, an MFA metals and jewelry design student, discuss how RIT is in a unique position to blur the line between technology and making for students in the College of Art and Design.

From robot waiters to river otters, RIT’s Graduate Showcase will cover a wide variety of topics representing graduate scholarship from the university’s Henrietta and global campuses. The symposium, held April 7, will feature oral presentations in the morning and poster presentations, demonstrations, and visual exhibitions in the afternoon.

An event showcasing more than 30 independent comic artists from across the Northeast and surveying Rochester’s independent video game scene will highlight the third annual Rochester Independent Comics Expo (RICE) this weekend.

It was a memorable and historic Academy Awards for Hollywood and a number of RIT alumni at the 94th Oscars from Los Angeles’ Dolby Theatre.

The third annual Rochester Independent Comics Expo (RICE) will bring more than 30 well-known comic artists to the area the first weekend of April.

The Washington Post features RIT/NTID alumni Youmee Lee ’13 (professional technical communications) and Laural Hartman ’05 (illustration), ’07 MS (secondary education of students who are deaf or hard of hearing), ’20 MFA (fine arts studio) and former Dyer Arts Center Director Tabitha Jacques.

Two outdoor sculptures are adorning RIT’s campus this academic year, with more on the way. Works by artists Joshua Enck and Letha Wilson have revived an outdoor sculpture initiative that is part of the School of Art’s Anna Ballarian Visiting Artist Series.

In virtually every art course and studio environment at RIT, technology is integral to the delivery of content and production of work, whether it’s an “ancient” technology like using a hammer and anvil to forge metal or a computer numerical control plasma table to cut metal forms.

Equipped with newly-developed professional skills and materials, students from Ceramics, Fine Art Photography and Metals and Jewelry gained insightful feedback on their work from 11 artists to wrap up the fall semester.

RIT and local designers partnered to create garments and wearables inspired by the Vignelli Center archives for display during a first-of-its-kind fashion show on Dec. 10. The event is open to the public.

The sixth annual event featured presentations on the latest virtual, augmented and mixed reality technologies that are driving various fields, from health care to theater to education. 

Students from majors across RIT fused historical knowledge, 3D printing and various pottery practices to create replicas of ancient Greek vessels.
