Students, faculty, staff and alumni from RIT’s College of Art and Design descended on Manhattan last week for NYCxDesign—New York City’s annual celebration of design that attracts hundreds of thousands from across the globe—that included a memorable celebration on the iconic Sesame Street.

A multidisciplinary contingent of RIT faculty, students and alumni is creating awareness and innovative design solutions to improve the quality of medical care and education for some of the most vulnerable in Central America.

RIT City Art Space—the College of Art and Design’s new first-floor gallery and community event venue inside Sibley Square at Liberty Pole Plaza in downtown Rochester—opened its doors to the public on Friday, with an exhibition featuring two of the university’s creative titans.

Meet Logan Fugle, Marjorie Henderson, Caitlyn Litaker and Michelle Reuter, fourth-year interior design students whose designs were chosen for RIT’s new gallery space in downtown Rochester.

Meet Madison Miller, Jim Chen and Stefani Schultz, third-year interior design students who designed a play area for the Sojourner Home at Wilson Commencement Park in Rochester. The project received a $63,000 grant to make the students’ design a reality.

Dozens of RIT students, faculty and staff left New York City exhausted yet inspired after the university’s most ambitious presence ever at NYCxDESIGN, the Big Apple’s sixth-annual celebration of design. Scores of visitors crowded into RIT’s seven exhibits and events showcased May 16 to 23.

After struggling with classes in her first semester at RIT, Kiasia Singletary got the help she needed and will graduate on time this May. The interior design major plans to pursue a master’s in architecture.
