Freshman Vitomir’s take on RIT Croatia academic and student life

The transition from high school to university life can be challenging for some. Students move to a new environment and leave familiar routines. They build new social networks and experience a lot of different emotions. Vitomir Pavičić is a Global Business Management freshman at the Zagreb campus who enjoys sports, and playing video games in his free time. While some high school students face challenges when choosing a college, Vitomir knew he wanted to study at RIT Croatia because of the many opportunities that are offered to our students.  „I knew this was the right choice for me when I attended a few classes before enrolling. I listened to three different lectures and was impressed”, he says.

Vitomir was inspired to choose RIT Croatia because of several factors. The first is the expertise of RIT Croatia's faculty members. Each faculty member is a distinguished expert in their field, bringing a wealth of experience and a track record of significant achievements.. „The professors' teaching styles are amazing. All of them are engaging and enjoyable to listen to, but the one that stands out the most is Professor Schmidt's flipped classroom approach. It's the perfect way to learn accounting! Studying new material at home and reviewing it in class with the professor is the most engaging and effective way of learning. The ability to come to class and ask questions about the material is priceless!“

The second reason Vitomir chose RIT Croatia is that the programs are taught in English. Studying in English „allows me to improve my language skills“, Vitomir explains. In addition to that, knowing the right terminology and vocabulary in the business world will help Vitomir achieve his future goals. Studying at RIT Croatia requires students to complete up to 800 hours of co-op in order to graduate. Knowing how much co-op is important to improve his chances of securing a good job after graduating, helped Vitomir consolidate his decision. Throughout the year, numerous events, lectures, and activities provide students with opportunities for growth and skill development.

Ensuring a smooth transition for freshmen

One of the key moments for all freshmen is Orientation Day. RIT Croatia is dedicated to students, offering a comprehensive system of student support. From the very first moment, academic and career advisors, an ombudsperson, and admissions specialists ensure a high-quality student experience both in the classroom and outside through their welcome speech. “The speeches at the Orientation Day from the professors and Student Government representative were insightful,” he says. However, the speech from the peer mentor, Wisdom Anthony, stuck with Vitomir through the first weeks of his new chapter, highlighting the support available throughout their academic journey.

As Vitomir began to settle into university life, he took time to adjust by practicing English with others to refine his skills. „This summer, I worked as a mentor to a group of high school students at Youth Business Camp Adria Zagreb, where I not only improved my conversational English but also developed my management and leadership skills.“ Having all courses in English helps Vitomir expand his vocabulary and to improve his communication skills. „I believe it will be even more beneficial in the long run, as I will learn more technical terms that I can use anywhere since English is truly a global language.“

Embracing campus life

Vitomir’s first day of class was full of excitement. He quickly connected with new classmates and attended his first lectures. He even helped at the reception, giving him the perfect opportunity to meet more people and settle into his new surroundings. In addition to his academics, Vitomir has joined several student clubs. With around 20 student clubs on our campuses, students can easily find a place where they can share their passion and interests. “I joined the basketball club, and even though I didn’t know much about basketball, they welcomed me with open arms. I’ve also joined the Women in Business club, which might sound cliché as a man, but I really enjoy participating in their activities and I'm excited to learn more about the inner workings of business and equality in the workplace. Just recently, I was chosen to join the Student Government, which I hope will be an amazing experience”, he says enthusiastically.
