Bio

Hoi, Chun-Keung is a professor of finance in the Saunders College of Business., His colleagues and students call him Stan., , His current research interests include tax avoidance, social capital, social, responsibility, and corporate governance. He has published in leading academic, journals across business disciplines including finance, accounting, and, management such as Journal of Finance, Journal of Financial Economics, Journal, of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Financial Management, The Accounting, Review, Journal of Accounting Research, Journal of Business Ethics, Corporate, Governance: An International Review, and Communications of the ACM. , , His current teaching focuses on financial models and corporate finance. Stan, has received multiple awards for his teaching and service from the Saunders, College and from RIT. The awards from RIT include the Eisenhart Award for, Outstanding Teaching (2006-2007) and the Provost's Award for Excellence in, Mentoring (2013-2014).

In this course, students learn to obtain and organize financial data and conduct financial analysis such as discounted cash flow analysis, risk analysis and financial forecasting. Sources of data include web-based sources and proprietary databases. Excel will be the main software tool.

An examination of basic financial theories, techniques, and practices. Topics include: time value of money, valuation, capital asset pricing, risk and diversification, cost of capital, capital budgeting techniques and spreadsheet analysis.

This Ph.D. research seminar scans relevant literatures in accounting and finance, develops ability to articulate research topics, and plan and execute various components of a research project. This course will introduce students to current research topics and methodologies in corporate finance with the aim of equipping students with the knowledge and analytical tools to carry out research project. This course covers various corporate finance topics, such as agency problems, corporate governance, executive compensation, financing, investing, merger and acquisition (M&As), taxes, and capital structure, etc. This course also provides students with a toolbox of analytical methods and hands-on experience of handling data that are commonly used in corporate finance field. The overall purpose is to develop a student’s capability both in articulating ideas and in executing empirical projects in Corporate Finance field.
