Spearheaded by RIT’s Division of Academic Affairs and Professor Joe Geigel, the rigorous program engages undergraduate and graduate students in long-term, large-scale, multidisciplinary projects led by faculty researchers.

Interdisciplinary teams of students applied their ingenuity and technological sensibilities in collaboration with local professional musicians to create interactive experiences.

Animation Career Review has named RIT one of the top augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR) colleges in the country. RIT ranked No. 8 on the 2022 list of Top 50 AR/VR Colleges in the U.S.

RIT's 2022-2023 theater season will include Everybody, a morality play on death; a production celebrating Thomas Warfield’s 25th anniversary of dance at NTID; a musical on unexpected connections; a play of episodic poems on deafness, violence, and resistance; and a dance production of an extended 1970s progressive rock song.

The sixth annual event featured presentations on the latest virtual, augmented and mixed reality technologies that are driving various fields, from health care to theater to education. 

RIT ranked No. 6 on the 2021 Augmented/Virtual Reality (AR/VR) College Rankings from Animation Career Review. RIT also ranked No. 3 on the east coast and No. 5 among private schools.

It doesn’t take long for art to imitate life, as evidenced with virtual live productions of life amid COVID-19 scheduled this week on Twitch TV. The Canadian Wiggler, written, directed and produced by RIT's David Munnell, uses virtual reality and actors in a live webcast. It is set in May 2020, when the coronavirus lockdown is taking its toll.

RIT has received a grant from the National Science Foundation to help make artificial intelligence smarter and more inclusive. The grant creates the Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) Site in Computational Sensing for Human-centered AI and will allow a total of 30 undergraduate students from across the country to spend 10 weeks at RIT.
