WROC-TV reports that RIT is getting nearly $1.5 million to train students in microelectronics.

RIT has been awarded $3.97 million from the Northeast Regional Defense Technology Hub (NORDTECH) to advance quantum chip technologies. The focus will be on scaling the power of quantum systems by entangling them across a photonic network.

While large-language models such as Chat GPT are sophisticated, there are still issues with performance because the system does not intuit the way a human can—yet.

The two-year project will explore the effectiveness of using an alternative, one-step ethylene production route which reduces the formation of unwanted by-products such as carbon dioxide as opposed to the multi-step process currently being used.

For the fall 2024 academic year, Gaborski has been appointed department head and will oversee a program that has expanded since it began to include more than 300 students in undergraduate, master’s and doctoral programs.

Faculty-researcher brings expertise in using engineering principles to bio-inspired technology solutions

 

Two faculty-researchers at RIT have been selected to the Class of 2024-2025 of Drexel University’s Executive Leadership in Academic Technology, Engineering and Science (ELATES) program, designed to promote women in academic STEM fields and faculty allies of all genders into institutional leadership roles.

The new engineering master’s degrees will serve to meet demands in increasing renewable energies, personalized healthcare technologies, and diagnostic system improvements. The project management MS allows students the ability to better specialize to their specific interests, giving them a competitive edge in their field of interest and making them more valuable to an employer.

The university’s two newest Ph.D. programs in cognitive science and physics offer diverse research opportunities for students and help them gain the skills and abilities needed to analyze data and grasp complex concepts. The new programs bring RIT’s total doctoral programs to 15.

The award is part of the NSF’s Research Traineeship Program (NRT), a national initiative to better prepare master’s and doctoral students for the interdisciplinary talents required in semiconductor chip development. The grant will provide 20 doctoral student fellowships to advance research in the much-needed field of semiconductor technologies.

The award is given to an individual who began their studies as a first-year student at RIT and is entering their final year of undergraduate study with the highest grade point average across the university.
